Cheesy Cooking Demo

Yesterday we held the last of our 2016 series of Cooking Demos with Cheese making on the agenda. As you can see in the photos a great turnout and expert tutelage by Daniel and Josephine. Bridie was wonderful in the kitchen with help from Grant (and photos).

This completed the series which covered Passata, bread dough, Sausages, Salami and Cheese. All valuable knowledge for recreating a wonderful feast of your own and homemade products.

It was great hearing from participants who had already applied their knowledge with one family recently making 30kg of salami.

PS: Thanks to John, Kerry and Peter (Rotarians) for helping clean up at the end – love your work.

2016 AIRSHOW POSTPONED

Dear Airshow Supporter
Postponement of the 2016 Kyneton Air Show

A NEW DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON.
We write to advise you that the Kyneton Airshow Committee; comprising members
from the Kyneton Aero Club and Rotary Clubs of Kyneton and Woodend, have had to
make the regrettable decision to postpone the planned Kyneton Aero Club’s 50th
Anniversary Airshow due to heavy and persistent Spring rainfall that has made the
vast majority of the Kyneton Airfield unserviceable.
This decision has not been made lightly, as the Committee is very much aware of the
disruption that this may cause to vendors and participants. However, safety of all
involved must, and always will, be our primary concern, and with the current
condition of the Airfield surfaces, and also the areas required for parking and
logistics support, we do not believe it is prudent to proceed with the 23 October
date.
The Airshow Committee is seeking to identify an alternate date, likely to be in the
first half of 2017, when it can hold the Airshow without conflicting with other
tourism events in the Macedon Ranges and/or other Aviation events around the
State. Once a date is finalised we will be in touch with further advice about the plans
for the event and how you can participate.
Yours faithfully
Kyneton Air Show Committee

Post Polio

Last Thursday Woodend Rotary met at the Woodend RSL again to hear from our guest speaker Bev Watson. Bev gave a wonderful presentation on living with Polio for 60 years. Bev contracted Polio in Australia in 1955 just 6 weeks prior to the introduction of the Salk vaccine. Everyone present were moved by Bevs story of spending a year in hospital and then on calipers and sticks for many years until she began using a wheelchair after the birth of her first child. However the stand out message and feeling everyone went away with was the positive attitude and determination raising 3 children and continually working. Woodend Rotary President Josephine and Gisborne President Sam, on behalf of the 4 D9800 Calder cluster clubs presented Bev with a cheque for $2000 to go towards the Post Polio conference held each year.

There are an estimated 400,000 people in Australia with Polio. Whilst Rotary is leading the charge to rid the world of Polio our cluster is also doing its bit to support the group of those living with Polio.bev-watson

Vietnam Sapa Childrens Charity

We were very lucky to hear from Rowan Simpson at our meeting last Thursday. Rowan has set up a charity for remote villages in far north Vietnam in the Sapa valley area. This stemmed from a visit to the region several years ago and seeing the need of the villagers and children. Why not check out more about Sapa Childrens Charity atwww.sapachildrenscharity.com
Check out the photos below of the great costumes hand made by the villagers.

Interview Skills workshop

Recently Woodend Rotary conducted an interview skills workshop at Braemar college. The night was organised by member Rosemary Guyatt and supported by Preeti, Grant and many others. On the night there was great support by Rotarians and friends. We conducted 1 on 1 and group interviews, as well as a networking exercise. Thanks to Braemar college and Careers Leader Jack O’Brien for supporting the event. The photos and smiles say it all.
Well done to all involved.
